College Ministries

College – they say it’s the best time of your life. Freedom, adventure and fun – it’s what people expect when they come to college.

But college is that and so much more: Life-changing decisions, meaningful friendships, and lifelong memories.

In the midst of midterms, problem sets, papers and finals, seekers meet Christ, and Christians mature into Christ-followers. We make the college experience a packed and rich one, with weekly bible studies, games, life groups (or small groups), service opportunities, training, road trips, and retreats.

Culture of Service & Compassion

Many of our college students attend one of these campus fellowships. Come check one out!

Praxis

Praxis is comprised of post-graduate singles and couples, many of whom have made Gracepoint Berkeley their spiritual home. Praxis (pronounced ‘prak-sis) is Latin for the practical application of a theory. All our heartfelt commitments to Christ (theory) meet reality as we live life in the “real world” of work, finances, entertainment, friends, courtship, marriage, and family (practical application).

We frequently refer to Praxis as the backbone of Gracepoint Berkeley, the behind-the-scenes people who keep the church running and shoulder much of the work so the good things that happen at church happen smoothly, week in and week out: Worship Service elements and setup, prayer meetings, audio/video for all our events, stage lighting, videos, all the good food, and much, much more. We’re a mobile church with events-on-the-go, and Praxis folks seldom stand around idle. In fact, they’re also the ones who are involved our Interhigh regional youth ministry, bring weekly Worship Service to the elderly at local senior homes, welcome visiting scholars and their families to UC Berkeley, and support the ministries and needs of our various church plants.

So, how do we keep it up and not burn out? Growing joy in the gospel, and growing love for each other as we live it out together in spiritual community. The gospel that captured many of our hearts while we were in college anchors us in this new season of life. It breathes greater personal commitment and zeal as we build the Acts 2 dream, working and living shoulder to shoulder, a day at a time.

International & Grad

International Graduate Student Ministry (IGSM) began in the fall of 2003 with the vision of bringing the gospel to the ends of the earth, starting right here on our own campus. IGSM serves the many graduate students and visiting scholars on the Berkeley campus by hosting English classes, Bible studies, grad school survival sessions, worldview lectures, trips to San Francisco, Yosemite and Disneyland, and in the process, introducing many to Christianity for the first time.

With the aim to “love locally, impact globally,” the vision of IGSM is to share the love of Christ with these visiting scholars and future leaders with the hope that they will return to their home countries with a fresh understanding and openness to the gospel.

Youth

Along with relevant bible studies, rocking praise, and cozy small groups our youth enjoy awesome outings, service opportunities, and domestic and foreign mission trips.

Element and Interhigh reject the prevailing view of modern-day teenagers as apathetic, insecure and aimless, and seeks to raise the expectations. Our mentors aim to channel the youthful zeal of their students for good: they encourage them to passionately pursue a personal relationship with Christ, and they disciple them to become well-rounded individuals growing in knowledge, character, skill and talent.

“To ELevate ourselves above the status quo, and be EMpowered by God to ENgage the world with his love shown on the cross.”

InterHigh partners with local churches to offer much-needed apologetics and worldview training, college mentors for guidance and encouragement, and a community of like-minded peers by bringing Christian youth from all over the bay area, together.

The “JOY” in Joyland, stands for Jesus, Others and You. The lesson is that we gain true joy through putting Jesus and others first. Through creative drama, entertaining videos, active praise time, dynamic teaching and mentoring, children learn that putting Jesus and others first brings true joy, and for many, Joyland Sunday is the highlight of their week.

Joyland students (Grades K-5th) also enjoy various fun outings, picnics, sleepovers, and activities.

Launched in 1997 from a burden to meet the needs of the underserved children in neighboring Oakland, ImpACT is our Christian non-profit organization that provides academic enrichment programs and one-on-one mentoring for Oakland’s inner city kids. The ImpACT Teachers, Team Leads, and Volunteers hope to create an energetic and caring learning environment for kids to reach their highest potential. ImpACT students are also invited to Joyland Sundays and other fun activities!
