Memorable Moments

From Christmas celebrations to children’s retreats, stay tuned with the fun-filled, meaningful experiences and events that we have lined up for our Joyland children.

Joyland Christmas Celebration

Joyland Christmas Celebration (JCC) is the highlight of most students' (and teachers') year! We begin preparing for this memorable night of Christmas-centered songs, skits, and classic Nativity pageant a few months before December, and everyone gets to participate—as a shepherd, the Christmas star, or perhaps even a rapping Ebenezer in a modern and kid-sized version of "A Christmas Carol."

Bible Olympics

Two kids cooperate in Bible Olympics

The Bible Olympics is an exciting event that challenges each Joyland student to use their full potential in memorizing a Psalm or studying several passages from the Bible. They then compete in a Jeopardy-style game that includes challenges like reciting a verse from memory or naming the first two disciples whom Jesus called. For the winners (two per grade level), there are awesome prizes! Past Bible Olympics champs have gone ice-skating, miniature golfing, and visited Marine World.

Joyland Festival

Joyland Festival

Joyland Festival is a tradition that began many years ago to provide a safe (and, in our opinion, much more exciting and fun!) alternative to Halloween. Our teachers and volunteers spend days creating enchanting backdrops, booths, and various programs for the children to enjoy in a safe and fun setting on October 31st. There are loads of interactive carnival-style games, a magic show, photo-booths, prizes and refreshments – cotton candy is the perennial hit! Children love seeing their Joyland teachers costumed to match different themes and bring their friends to share in all the fun.

FTS Retreat

FTS Retreat 2006

The FTS (Fourth-Through-Sixth) retreat is the much anticipated summer event where about 30 fourth, fifth and sixth graders camp in the great outdoors (usually a campground in the Sierras) to learn about God. Each year has never failed to be an adventure, as the few days are highlighted by a special speaker bringing kid-relevant bible studies, using real-life examples and illustrations to help us learn the truths about the gospel. It is a special time to bond with the teachers, build friendships, act in skits and gather around the campfire to sing a song or two. The retreat is so jam-packed that it only happens once a year, but the memories are guaranteed to last a lifetime. See photos and videos from our previous retreats.
