Pastor and Staff

Pastor Ed & Kelly Kang

At the age of 15, Pastor Ed’s semi-delinquent life took a turn when he became a Christian, and God led him on a journey he never imagined. The only son of immigrant parents from Korea, he graduated from UC Berkeley and attended law school at Boalt Hall. He eventually left his law career to become a pastor.

After more than two decades of ministry, Pastor Ed’s vision and drive remain the same: To build up a Christ-centered church that equips every believer and both engages and embraces the community around it. When he is not delivering intelligent and refreshingly relevant messages, overseeing various ministries, counseling people or training lay ministers, Pastor Ed can readily be found sharing a meal and some laughs with people, leading hikes through the Sierras or displaying his uncanny reverse-hook lay-up in a game of basketball.

Pastor Ed’s wife, Kelly, is every bit his match and complement. After working ten years as a software engineer in the Bay Area, she joined her husband in full-time ministry to more fully employ her gifts and passion to serve others. A gifted leader and counselor, Kelly is intimately involved in ministries throughout the church. But more than being just a competent minister, what really stands out is her caring heart for people. Together, they form a dynamic ministry duo.

SF Campus | Daemin & Ahmi Kim

Daemin & Ahmi met 23 years ago as freshmen at Cal and have been together ever since. They have been in ministry for over 10 years. After facing many adventures together over the years, their next great one is to face their 15 year old daughter Lydia getting a driver's license.

Praxis / Joyland | Tony & Michelle Sun

Tony is a Korean-born Chinese who immigrated to the US when he was 13. Tony grew up in Concord and attended Diablo Valley College until he transferred to Cal to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Michelle immigrated to the US when she was 14 and majored in Civil Engineering. Tony now works as a manager for Williams Sonoma. They have two boys, Stephen (12) and Philip (9). Tony and Michelle are the directors of Praxis and lead the couples group within Praxis. Michelle also is our Joyland Director and spends much of her time creating great services for our children.

Element / College Koinonia | Manny & Sunny Kim

Emanuel (Manny) & Sunny Kim’s names perfectly exemplify who they are – people who bring smiles and God’s presence wherever they go. Manny studied MCB (Molecular Cell Biology) and Psychology at Cal and went through the gamut of possible careers – pre-dental, pre-law, pre-med, computers – before finally settling into his true vocation as a full-time pastoral intern. Sunny, a former loan administrator with friendly phone manners and a bright smile that landed her on a World Savings ad, now works as our church administrator. Together, they impact youth and college students as directors of both Element and Koinonia, one of the college groups. They live in Alameda with their daughters, Corrie (8) and Naomi (3).

College acts2fellowship | William & Esther Kang

William and Esther are the directors of our Berkeley campus college group, A2F (a.k.a. Acts 2 Fellowship) and they also lead A2F1, one of A2F's large groups. A forever Cal Fan, William is a seminary student at Gordon Conwell and one of our pastoral interns. He teaches weekly bible studies at A2F. Esther helps with all the planning and direction of A2F while she works full-time for Kaiser Permanente's market research department. They are also parents of two beautiful children, Caleb (7) and Danielle (3).

College Kairos | Daniel & Sarah Kim

Daniel & Sarah currently serve in the Kairos ministry. Daniel is working toward a masters degree in apologetics and is also a computer programmer. In his spare time, he enjoys performing magic tricks, writing skits and home building. Sarah works as a corporate lawyer and likes to read, exercise and hang out at cafes. They have two rambunctious daughters, Elise (4) and Michelle (2).

College CSUEB | Chris & Judy Lee

Chris & Judy bear the distinction of being the couple who has been at Gracepoint the longest, faithfully serving since their undergrad days at Cal. Chris now works as an engineer and Judy as a physician’s assistant, when she is not tending to all the babysitting needs at Gracepoint as the babysitting “master” planner. Chris’ unassuming, friendly and comfortable demeanor made him the perfect fit for our Sunday worship service presider. They live with their daughter, Tabitha (11), who is a great help with her little sister Joanne (2).

ISM | Chul & Sharon Kim

Chul grew up in South Korea before he came to UC Berkeley for his graduate studies. Currently, he is teaching Chemistry at Cal State East Bay as an assistant professor. Sharon was also born in South Korea and immigrated to the US at the age of 12. She studied Economics at UC Berkeley and is now working on Berkeley campus as a staff. She also teaches English as well as the Bible to international students. Chul and Sharon have two children - Michael (born in ‘98) and Pauline (born in ‘03). At this point, Michael's most prominent contribution to society is his role in the regional soccer team though he likes writing short stories and math, too. Pauline is still preparing herself to make her grand entry into society.
